We had a special visitor during the weekend of the 15th, our good friend David (please see David’s account of the trip www.gillens.net). Jack and David created some great memories! David flew in on Friday and spent the afternoon playing in our living room with Jack. Jack’s favorite part of the afternoon was when David set-up his new playscape/slide. JX showed us that he isn’t a conformist and liked to do things his own way. Jack decided on a non-conventional route and challenged himself by climbing up the slide and then going down the step usually used for entering the playscape. This was pretty cute! Plus, the first couple of times he would work his way down the step, his butt would fall into this small gap between the floor and the playscape and his legs would fly up in the air and you’d only be able to see Jack’s legs and head, the rest of him was folded in half. Later Friday night, David and Mike set-up Jack’s basketball hoop and boy did Jack go to town. Our friend Eric gave Jack the bb hoop. Eric will be proud, the X-Man is training hard. Jack dunked non-stop for about 20 minutes! Almost every ball you gave him he’d dunk. He especially liked the Wilson AVP volleyball!
On Saturday, we went to Olivia’s birthday party at Playwise. It was a really neat place for kids! The large warehouse is divided into several themed stations. Jack really liked the playground area and beach area. The fire truck was okay, Dave and Mike seemed to be more excited about the real fire engine than Jack. Jack was delighted to have Dave and Mike push him around in a little car. He’d put one leg in and hang one leg out of the car. He is so use to riding his purple eggplant and little cow (both of them he sits on top and rides like a horse) that he didn’t know how to sit in a car. Even when we did manage to get both legs in the car, he’d stick one leg out and give us this “I’m so proud of myself” look. We spent the rest of the day watching the UT football game with Mike, Clare, and Andy. Jack, Mike, and Dave wore their UT gear as they cheered UT to victory!
Dave’s last day with us was Sunday. We did make the most of the day by starting out bright and early around 6 am. Fall is upon us, it was about 45 degrees in the morning! Dave ran a half-marathon that started in Rockville and ended in Bethesda. Jack, Mike, and I met Dave at the finish line and cheered him on for the last 100 feet. After the marathon we all enjoyed a nice hot breakfast at a local diner. On our way home, we spied a community yard sale at the local high school and picked up a few things. Jack’s favorite part of the yard sale was playing on the little playground. After we returned home, Jack and David continued their play date. Dave and Mike taught Jack how to bang the banging balls toy. The object of this toy is to take a mallet and pound a ball through a hole and then retrieve the ball and do it again. After the ball is pounded into the hole, it goes down a series of ramps and then exits the toy. It was pretty cool to see Jack put it all together. He’d was able to hit the ball with the mallet and then retrieve it and put it in the hole. He would do this over and over and over and over…
We are so happy that Dave came up to hang out with us! We sure do miss him! We hope he’ll come again soon!

It was great to hang out with you guys. I forgot how much Jack like dunking the ball. That was fun, especially how he’d always grunt after dunking it!
I’ll definitely try to come again soon.
